This must be the week for revisiting and revising words from a previous season. The ache doesn’t dissipate, but it does, perhaps, change its clothes with the season.
I was surprised this week by someone remembering a song I had written for an occasion years ago. She remembered the lyric with more clarity than I did!
Thank you for reflecting that thin veil between past and present in sharing your poetry 🥹
And what fun to share your excitement with new ideas!
With that beautiful poem, you expressed the ache in my heart when the house empties after the holidays better than I ever could. And I’m very excited that you’re writing a fourth novel.
The first picture of the eagles went hand in hand with your titled poem for me. I saw many eagles in Alaska when my husband and I went on a cruise. But one of the last days we went on an outing with my son, daughter-in-law, daughter and husband on our Christmas vacation we saw a pair close to their home in Ft. Collins, Colorado. My son thoughtfully took a picture of one of them flying off to the lake beside their tree. I thought how the flight was just a short trip for the eagle and that he/she would return to their mate's side, I wished that would be so for us as well. This was the first Christmas in 20 years that our family was all together. I want the next Christmas gathering to be so much sooner. We've spent birthdays, graduations, and other occasions together, but not Christmases. Leaving was hard.
This was beautiful Cheryl! Also, Sugar Birds got me out of a recent reading funk!! So thanks for that :)
Thanks for reading both of 'em, Sarah! 🧡

Thanks for your thoughtful response, Kara. Glad the words and notes we’ve been given don’t expire!
Mmm...rich and well-thought, as always.
Thanks, Michelle.

Thanks so much, Maggie. I'm still hearing echoes in our empty rooms. Blessedness in the longing, right?
Love the poem. I'm sure like with me, it will resonate with many.
Thanks, Elizabeth, and thanks for reading. Hellos are way more fun.
Phenomenal photography. Thank you for sharing it with your readers.
Thanks for spending time with the pics, Karen. Oh, the beauty out there.

Your poem resonates with heartache. Thanks for capturing the way we ache when our precious ones leave.
Part and parcel of loving, isn't it?
